Every August, when the days are brightest, whenever i’d miss my family in the Philippines I used to tell myself that if we’re both under the same sun we must not be so far apart.
In isolation, the sun fills my room with so much light─ attic bedrooms are always the hottest. Everyday I wake up alongside the sunrise. I see all the people walking along the street from my window and wonder how my loved ones are doing. I think to myself, “Are my friends okay?” “Is my family safe?” Once again imagining the sun filling the space between us.
